For Friday you have the following assignment:
You have read and heard Martin Luther King's famous speech. Choose one of the following questions and write a well-organized and well-developed essay. The essay is due Friday, October 28. This is a graded, at-home writing assignment. You should consider writing several drafts of your essay and or visiting the Center for Student Success before you hand it in on Friday. If you use material from other sources, including the speech you have read and heard, you must include in-text citations and a bibliography with your essay. After I read and comment on your paper, you will be permitted to make changes to it and hand in a subsequent draft for extra credit.
Choose ONE of the following writing prompts.
- To what extent has Martin Luther King's dream come true? How do you
know?
- Since the civil rights movement, the story has played out several times
and is currently being addressed by other groups. How does Martin
Luther Kings speech apply to other or all groups? Which group(s)?
Why?
- Do you see any reason to place limits on any particular group living in
the United States? Which group(s)? Why?
- If you are not from the United States and do not feel qualified to
address these issues in the context of this country, you may address
the topic of discrimination and segregation in the historical
context of your own country.
